Base Camp Brewing

Lil Grom Hazy Pale, 24 ibu, 5%, fresher than fresh, a West coast Belgium hazy, wit beer.  Wheat with small hops.  Soso

Ultra Gnar Gnar IPA, 60 Ibu, 6.7%, barley and oats six Oregon hops, metallic taste, not the best IPA that we have had.

Smooth Hoperator, hop infused, Ann has an anchovie beginning, different. 

Pow Pow Cherry Porter, 30 ibu, 5.6%, cherry finish, dragon cherry puree, BA oak,  nice clean nose, regular Porter beginning. 

S'more Stout, they charr dini marchmellows on the rim of the glass, 66 ibu, 7.2%, slight smoke nose, sweet finish, both girls like it.  ⭐⭐ From Ann and Fran.

Cherry Nomadic, double IPA, 70 ibu, 9.0%, Strong IPA nose, hearty IPA, with Brett yeast, leans it to the Belgium side, finishes Belgium, starts slight sour.

Three Mugs Brewing, Hillsboro, OR

Obsession for Session IPA, 60 Ibu, 5.1%, nice nose, taste of apricot. Little hint on back sides of tongue.  Good beer. 

Hoppy in Paradise, passion fruit IIPA, 92 ibu,  9.0%, passion fruit nose, passion fruit taste, if you like the flavor okay.  If you don't like passion fruit don't drink it. 

Damsels Desire White Chocolate Ale, 12 ibu, 6.5%, white blonde, white chocolate nose, very sweet taste, you have to want the sweet to like this.  Different beer.  Like almond bark. 

Unforgivable Sin BA Imperial Porter, 40 ibu, 10.5%,  sweet finish, dark color, diff on back sides of tongue, drinkable Porter, good beer. 

No sour Mugs In The IPA Room, sour IPA, 6.7%, 65 ibu, IPA nose, not really not that sour, okay but what I would call a sour beer. 

Cascadian Coffee Ale, 7.6%, coffee nose, coffee finish, slight acidic taste from the coffee.

Ecliptic Brewing, Portland, OR

Capella Porter, 39 ibu, 5.2%, sweet dark malts, 4 hops, American, chocolate and caramel, very nice Porter.  Would drink.

Orbiter IPA, 75 ibu, 7.4%, 4 Hops start with a C and then Simcoe, Cascade, Centennial, Chinook, Columbus. Nice IPA nose, slightly bitter finish, good taste. 

Starburst IPA, 75 ibu, 7.8%, six hops, Amar, Aza, Cent, Citra, Mosaic, Simcoe, dry hopped at the end, citrus fruit and pine, great nose, citrus, clean finish, good beer.

Hypernova IPA, Triple IPA, 88 ibu, 22%, two separate dry hopped additions, Sim, Ama, as, Chin, Columbus hops.  Slight citrus nose, very smooth for a tripel with the high abv.  Good beer. 

Phaser Hazy IPA, 45 ibu, 6.5%, juicy unfiltered, Citra, Azacca, Mosaic, Motueka, & Calypso hops, nice fruit nose, good finish, slight bitter on the tongue.  Good beer. 

Carina Peach Sour Ale, 34 ibu, 5.5%, peach nose, use Pale malt, good tartness in the middle of the tongue, refreshing, could be a hot summer drink.

Deschutes Brewing, Portland, OR


Needless to say they have a lot of beer on tap here.  23 beers tapped.  Sours, 7 IPAs, Porter, Stouts, Ciders, Imperial IPA. 
Thai Sour, 10 ibu, 4.0%, lemongrass, Thai Chili's, not that good. 
Fruit Boots, NE IPA, 50 ibu, 6.5%, five Hop variety, tropical fruit, subtle bitterness.  Would drink this over others.
Porter Vallarta, pub exclusive, 35 ibu, 5.9%, biscuit and chocolate with azaca, Galaxy and Amarillo hops, all like it as a good standard Porter, very drinkable.
Hop Henge Imperial IPA, 90 ibu, 8.3%, citrus zest, pine, caramel, Strong beer, bitterness very hoppy.  Good beer.  Nose is from the citrus zest.
St. Paddy's Wagon, nitro Irish Stout, 25 ibu, 4.5 %, chocolate and roast deep black color, chocolate nose, close to Guinness but better flavor. 
The Abyss, 100% Aged in Rum Barrels, 80 ibu, 11.4%, imperial Stout, vanilla, chocolate, dark fruits, caramel and espresso, lots of rum taste, and alcohol up front.  Rum nose up front.

The Cryo-Chronic IPA, 80 ibu, 6.9%, nice nose, cryogenic mosaic hops
On That Dust IPA, 65 ibu, 5.8%, another one using cryo hops, magic dust from beer advocate.
Country Boy IPA, 80 ibu, 6.2%, good nose, three hops, Columbus, Chinook, cascade, clean taste, good beer.e, the
Cold Press Coffee Porter, 45 ibu, 5.4%, after fermenting and aging, blended with Stoked's Bluebird cold brew coffee.  Good coffee nose, clean finish, nice hint of acidity from the coffee.
Sprinkles Hibiscus Sour Red Ale, 1.2 ibu, 4.5%, sour red ale, nose of a red ale, looks like a rose wine, or reisling grapes.
Insane Coconut Porter, 40 ibu, okay for me.
Insane Coconut Porter, 40 ibu, 9.0%, Coconut nose, sweet finish from the coconut. 
Monster Cookie Imperial Milk Stout, 85 ibu, 10%, brewed with locally made monster cookies, peanuts, cocoa nibs, rich Stout, Stout nose, good sweet milk stout, cocoa balances out the cookie. 
86 Dry Irish Stout, 42 ibu, 4.5%, Stout nose, smooth finish, good Irish Stout.

Old Town Porter, good color, good porter, very drinkable
Sparkle Motion, American pale ale with Citra and Galaxy hops, good flavor, served almost room temp 6%
Fallen Flag, American IPA, dry hopped with Citra and mosaic. Good taste great aroma
SHB, DDH Simcoe, double dry hopped with Simcoe hops, great aroma, different finish, 7%, 50 IBU, not necessarily one to order again
They have a lot of different IPAs

St. Louis Brewing Co., Scholarly Sticky Toffee Pudding, American Porter, W/molasses, vanilla beans, &  Date Puree.  Sweet porter, okay beer:. Ballast Point Brewing, Cinnamon Raisin Commodore, American Stout W/cinnamon & raisin 6.5% ABV.  Sweet with cinnamon taste, okay beer.

Porter, barrel aged 12 months, bourbon, Scotch, 6 malts, 3 hops, 6 months in each barrel , sweet orange peel back side, 11.5%, very smooth cocoa and vanilla beans too.

Honest Lawyer IPA, citrus,  67 Ibu, honest ipa
Pointer Brown, caramel chocolate notes, Glacier & Cascade hops. Smooth beer.

Blackhawk Stout, oatmeal stout, good dark stout, coffee notes, dark chocolate note, dark side to the flavor, I like this one not a Guinness. 

18th Amendment, rye pale ale, smooth, 5% abv,

Mooncat, porter, with toasted coconut. Smooth porter, not heavy. 

Mountain Porter, dark malts, Raisins, different finish from the Mooncat, good drink.

OJA Baltic Porter, good porter flavor, smooth, nice flavor.  

Lion Bridge Brewing, beers,

Porter, IPA, Dark Mild, Brown Porter,

The Disaster at Meux, Porter, 5.8%. On nitro, smooth, chocolate, coffee. 
The Disaster at Meux, CO2, more flavor with he co2.  Fran and Ann like this better than the nitro version.  

Workers Compensation, Dark Mild, biscuit, toffee and chocolate flavors meld together. 

Yard Sale American IPA, very good citrus nose, clean citrus taste on the back side.  Very drinkable ipa. 

Maple Disaster, Brown Porter with coffee.  Wohhhh coffee nose, barrel aged in Cedar Ridge single malt barrels and refermented with dark maple syrup.   Slightly sweet from the maple syrup. 

Ron likes the Workers Comp and Fran Yard Sale.

Exile Brewing, Sir Much a Lot, coffee stout, good beer
Fox Brewing, Frantic Fox Coffee stout, similar to first one
Kalona Brewing, UBU BA stout, really good bourbon barrel aged stout, very drinkable, would order anywhere on tap. 
Lion Brewing, Disaster porter, medium ranking.  Would not necessarily order.

White Flame Brewing, Hudsonville, MI

Many various brews with exciting names, Sugar, Sex, Magik, Pale Otter Porter,

We are trying five although Sex is a Barrel Aged Black Rye with Chipoltle peppers.

Red Shoes, is a pale ale, 5.2%, 35 ibu, with habanero peppers, a little heat in the nose, some on the tongue, a specialty beer.  variant of a pale ale.

Magik, barrel aged double IPA, 10%, has the liquor taste from the barrel, okay.   Whiskey/bourbon taste.

Doomsday, imperial stout with coffee, 11%, coffee nose, heavy coffee taste, good stout.

Black Sheep, black ipa, 8%, 85 ibu,  big rich flavor, bitterness of an IPA, dark color, rich flavor, okay for a black ipa.

Pale Otter Porter, 5%, 43 ibu, rich robust porter, smooth porter, very good, drinkable.  

Sex, Barrel aged black rye w/chipotle peppers, 7 %, whikey nose, the pepper sneaks up on you.  the whiskey does have a little power.

Odd Side Ales

Odd side Ales,

Spiced Stout rum barrel aged, imperial stout, with smoked black peppercorns.  10% abv, rum gives it the liquor touch in the nose and at the back of the throat, nice beer.

Mayan Mocha Stout, stout with coffee, habanero, nutmeg, cinnamon, 6.5%, nose is the nutmeg and cinnamon, heat sneaks up on you.   Cinnamon and nutmeg prevalent.   as good or better than the one we had in St. Louis.

Baltic porter, 7%, robust porter, fall season, amber porter, slight fruity taste, not robust.

Chocolate Koffie Stout, 6.5%, Stout brewed with coffee and chocolate, chocolate nose, a little  bitter on back end, slight coffee taste, good stout

Bean Flicker, blonde ale with coffee added, 4.5%, good nose, cannot discern smell but not bad, slight coffee taste, not bad.  Served on CO2.

Bean Flicker, on nitro, seems a little flat

Citra Pale Ale, Pale ale done exclusively with citra hops. nice citrus nose,

Saugatuck Brewing

Oval Beach Blonde, 5.0%, ABV, 10 IBU, light ale, subtle malt, hop flavors, and well balanced body.  light ale, no bite, per the 10 IBU, easy drink,

Five Quarter Porter, 5.7%, 47 IBU, robust rich porter, thick black body, complex malt profile, heavy roasted toasted coffee flavor, subtle hints of chocolate, intense aroma, good nose, nice tasted malt taste, good porter

Neapolitan Milk Stout, 6.0%, 37 IBU, creamy milk stout waith all the brilliant flavors of chocolate, vanilla and strawberry, call it a unique beer, strawberry nose, chocolate hint, vanilla slight taste on the back of the tongue,

Backyard IPA, 4.5%, 445 IBU, hop forward session IPA, tropical fruits and citrus aroma and taste, nice nose before tasting, good bitter flavor, enjoyable for a session IPA.

Singapore IPA, 7.0%, 72 IBU, well balanced IPA, sharp bitte of bitter, followed by a brisk and powerful citrus burst and smooth finish.  nose is not there, bitter bite is there, not as citrusy as the backyard IPA,

The Haig IPA, Double IPA, 76 IBU, 7.2% ABV, continually hopped IPA with citrus and floral aroma,  light copper in color and biscuity malt profile.

Country Strong, IPA
Blackberry Hard Cider, sour type  beer.  

Perrin Pub Comstock Park, MI

Unfinished Business, 132.1%, 35 IBU, Japanese Emporers Stout, small cache of small  batch bourbon out of Washington, aged in barrels to depart a caramel, ripe tobacco, and a soothing boozy finish.   very good stout, with the bourbon finish.  Virgin bourbon  barrels, first run of beer after the bourbon has aged.

98 Problems IPA, 6.5%, 60 ibu, west coast hops, floral and citrus notes, nice finish, not too bitter,   good IPA<

Papa Don's Porter,5.8%, 32 ibu, black  color, malt forward brew, with generous chocolate notes, smooth creamy mouth feel.  not very bitter, could have a fuller  body,

Amber Saison Sour, fresh oak   barrels, aged over a year, added a handfull of fresh apple pressing, and fermentecd with wild yeast that completely covered the apples.  Each barrel soured and delivered its own flavor.   6%, very good sour beer.  even I like it.

But for these:
Solid Gold, extra pale ale, 4.5%, american lager, smooth, good taste but light
Beer City IPA, 6%, cascade hops, good taste, hoppier.  
B.A Redankulous, barrel aged 485 days in a oak, whiskey barrel, good/smooth taste, excellent taste, no   bad after taste.  Really good, only in the taproom. 12.5%

Porter, 6.5%, good dark chocolaty taste, excellent notes and after taste, not over powering. i have and would order and drink this again.  
Devil Dancer, 12%, 112 IBU, good hoppiness, Imperial India Pale Ale, not bad. 
Pale Joe, Pale ale brewed with coffee, 5.3%, great coffee taste mellows out the pale ale, good taste 
Watermelon Gose, 4.6%, Fran says it tastes like a glass of juice, German style wheat, sour, I would not buy for myself, Ann likes this one.  
All in all everyone liked everything but  the Solid Gold, which is like a bud, coors, miller,
Red's Rye, 6.6%, Rye IPA, very clean taste fruity nose, slight rye taste, good beer
Breakfast Stout, 8.3%, good stout, smooth, chocolate flavor
Redankulous, 9.5%, Imperial red IPA, good, red, imperial taste,

Barn Brewers, Lawton, MI

 Doing  Irish Red, House Porter, Imperial IPA, Pee Can Porter,

Irish Red very light tasting.
Porter House, 5.6%, the porter flavor is there but not a strong porter.
Tractor Wood Imperial IPA, 8.2 % , not hoppy,
Pee-Can Porter, sweet porter, 5.6%, has pecans in it.   Caramel, butterscotch nose, very good beer.
